  6. RemoteFS: An Archimedes remote filing system
  7.  
  8. Atomwide is pleased to announce the availability of its Archimedes
  9. connectivity package RemoteFS.  RemoteFS is an application for RISC OS v2.0
  10. or later which allows files and directories on each of two computers to be
  11. accessed by the other.  A complete RISC OS filing system, RemoteFS can be
  12. used from the command line or from the Desktop.  The Desktop filer window
  13. presents a view of the remote computer's files, allowing copying and other
  14. filer operations to be performed (in the background under RISC OS v3.10). 
  15. Several types of communication link are supported including cabled serial,
  16. modem-to-modem serial, parallel port (A5000 or later models only) and
  17. Ethernet.

  19. RemoteFS consists of a RISC OS Desktop application front-end, a
  20. multi-tasking filing system core and a variety of protocol modules to
  21. support the various types of link.  A copy of RemoteFS must be present in
  22. both computers before transfers may take place.  However, the serial
  23. protocol module supports the special case where the second computer is
  24. loaded with RemoteFS over the serial link.

  26. Reliable transfers are ensured by a layered error detection and correction
  27. system, each protocol module providing its own error handling.  Transfer
  28. rates are dependent on the type of link - the parallel port link will
  29. provide the highest rate of data transfer, but requires both machines to be
  30. equipped with the new PC-compatible parallel ports (ie A5000, A4). 
  31. However, any two computers regardless of type may be connected by cabled
  32. serial or Ethernet links assuming the relevant interfaces are fitted.

  34. RemoteFS consists of a disk, manual, serial cable and parallel cable.  RISC
  35. OS 2.00 or greater is required.  All types of computer equipped with serial
  36. interfaces are supported directly; other links apply according to the
  37. interfaces available.

  40. Acorn User exhibition, Wembley Exhibition Centre, 16th-18th October 1992.
